In 2019, our beautiful downtown was flourishing. Much of the groundwork laid over years of improvements by Youngstown CityScape and its partners was coming to fruition. Brimming pots of flowers, public artwork, clean streets, fun events … there were great new restaurants, an active bar scene and people relishing the hustle and bustle of a thriving downtown.

We are now feeling the anguish of what our city has been through recently. Between a global pandemic, endless construction projects, and the devastating explosion of one of our most treasured historic buildings, it’s hard not to feel “how much more can we take?”

But here’s what we know: Youngstown CityScape has dealt with headwinds over the last 27 years, and we did the work that got us to where we were in 2019. We reached out to partners, sharpened our vision, and kept moving forward. When we started, downtown was bleak, boarded up, and neglected. What our partners, stakeholders, and volunteers did was pick up a broom, fill a pot, and get to work! Wick Park in bad shape? Give it TLC with vision. No Holiday Parade? Start it up again with flair. Our cultural corridor dilapidated? Reimagine it. And guess what? CityScape is still here and so proud to work with thousands of volunteers to show our city love.

Our wheels are in motion for a joyous “Sparkle 2024” with Youngstown Light Up the Night set for Friday, December 6. We want this year’s event to light downtown like a beacon and celebrate the season with togetherness. We need you to believe right along with us that all this is possible.

As the year draws to a close, and with the season of giving upon us, your generous gift to Youngstown CityScape will help us continue our holiday Sparkle tradition and so much more! • Transformative planning efforts along Wick (and now Belmont) Avenues
• $1 million invested in upgrading Wick Park
