Youngstown, Ohio was founded on June 27, 1796, by surveyor, and namesake John Young. Since then, the city has experienced its fair share of ups and downs. On June 26, 2019, the community celebrated this anniversary with deserts, and a look at the past, present, and future of the city.

The event was primarily hosted at Tyler History Center, with the help of the staffs of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society (MVHS), and Youngstown CityScape. Attendees were greeted to hear a few words from MVHS executive director, Bill Lawson, and CityScape executive director, Sharon Letson. The anxious crowd then gathered around the serving table to sing Happy Birthday to the city. The cake was provided by “Mark Canzonetta’s Bistro 1907”, and cookies were provided by “One Hot Cookie”. The events continued with a historic tour of West Federal Street, and South Phelps street. The event concluded with a behind the scenes look at the brand new “Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre”, and “Huntington Community Alley”.
