18 Eastern Redbuds Trees Were Planted on Walnut and Commerce Streets

The Downtown Youngstown Partnership, a component of Youngstown CityScape, completed the planting of 18 new street trees in the medians on Walnut and Commerce streets downtown. The project was part of a tree stewardship certification training conducted by the Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Holden Forests & Gardens. In July, Ohio State Extension also conducted an Urban Tree Training.

Support for the educational program was provided by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. Funding for the tree planting portion was provided by the Raymond John Wean Foundation Neighborhood SUCCESS Grant program.

Special thanks to all project partners: Downtown Youngstown Partnership/Youngstown CityScape, Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Holden Forests & Gardens, Ohio State Extension, City of Youngstown, Second Nature Landscaping, and Boardman Township Zoning Department.
