Youngstown CityScape Beautification Awards
Each year, CityScape recognizes individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout the city that display exceptional dedication to the beautification of their homes, offices, or public spaces.
Awardees are recognized at an annual event held at a local venue. The hard work of each recipient is displayed and certificates of recognition are awarded.
Streetscape Annual Planting Day
Held the first Saturday after Memorial Day (with a fundraising kickoff event each Spring), Streetscape is an annual volunteer event that targets a specific area or areas of the downtown for improvement. Staff and volunteers then maintain these areas year-round. Streetscape continues to grow each year and in the process, brings hundreds of individuals from throughout the Valley to the downtown area for a day of beautification.
Grass Roots Gala
Since 2010, CityScape has awarded the David & Pat Sweet ‘Grass Roots Award’ to an individual or organization who has made significant personal commitment to the CityScape’s mission of revitalizing downtown Youngstown and gateways through beautification, education and preservation. The event is typically held each March and serves as the organization’s annual dinner. A portion of the proceeds of the event benefits the Youngstown CityScape Endowment Fund.
Kickoff Breakfast & Press Conference Streetscape
Our annual celebration of Spring and the kickoff to Streetscape Planting Day Breakfast & Press Conference…we always have a lot to share!
Youngstown Holiday Parade & Christmas Tree Lighting
For many years, downtown Youngstown hosted the Mahoning Valley’s annual holiday parade. However, as the downtown area began to decline, the event eventually ended. In 2009, CityScape played a lead role in helping bring back the parade and continues to be a lead partner in helping organize the event.
CityScape also spearheads the downtown holiday lighting display (Sparkle Youngstown), which offers a warm welcome to visitors during Youngstown’s frosty winter months. The display begins and December, runs through February and involves the installation of over 50,000 individual lights in Central Square and Federal Street.
Downtown Volunteer Work Days
CityScape hosts regular Downtown Volunteer Workday events in which different projects or tasks are completed by individuals or groups. The Workday events are held on Saturday morning typically from 10am-12pm. For information about workday events, check the master schedule on the home page or sign up for email notifications here.
